Delirium Tremens was born in 1989 thanks to a tax inspector. Legend has it that, tasting the latest product from the Huyghe brewery, and immediately falling in love with it, he said: "If I continue to drink this, I will start to rave!". Jean De Laet was immediately enlightened, arranged for it to be bottled immediately in Cologne ceramic bottles, originally intended for a German customer and commissioned a student to design the label in exchange for two cases of beer. Today the label still tells this story, from the ceramic-effect bottle to the symbols on the label, universally recognized as an allegory of alcoholic hallucination: pink elephants, dragons, crocodiles and birds. Over time, the pink elephant took over and became a symbol universally associated with Delirium Tremens.
